Bringing Sustainable Period Care to Remote Renewable Energy Sites
How RES is using Riley to support wellbeing, break stigma, and create more inclusive workplaces, even in the most remote locations.
The Challenge
Many renewable energy sites are located far from towns, facilities, and basic welfare infrastructure, meaning long travel times, extended hours, and limited access to essentials.
For people who menstruate, the lack of period products or proper disposal options can lead to discomfort, stress, and unnecessary anxiety at work. It also sends an unintended message: that their wellbeing isn’t fully considered.
With a growing, diverse workforce and a strong commitment to inclusion, RES recognised that access to sustainable, high-quality period care was a simple but powerful way to support their people and set a new standard across the industry.
Our Partnership
In 2024, RES launched a trial with Riley across 10 remote renewable energy sites managed on behalf of The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG). The goals were:
- Provide 100% organic, ethically made period products onsite
- Introduce low-impact, long-use sanitary bins that reduce disposal costs
- Normalise period care as a core part of workplace wellbeing
The results were clear. Following the success of the trial, RES expanded the rollout, introducing Riley products across all Octopus Energy Generation assets under their management and embedding the initiative into their wider asset management offering for future partners.
What began as an internal inclusion effort, led by RES’ Gender Affinity Network, has since become a flagship example of how asset managers can elevate welfare standards in remote sites.
For Riley, supporting RES through this rollout meant more than supplying products, it meant working with a partner deeply aligned with our mission: sustainable, responsible business that puts people first.
The Impact
Breaking Stigma
By making period products visible and free to access, RES is helping break stigma in an industry where these conversations rarely happen. The initiative ensures that anyone who needs products can access them easily, supporting comfort, dignity, and better focus at work.
Strengthen ESG Efforts
For RES, this approach strengthens their Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) commitments and enhances the welfare offering they provide to partners across their global portfolio.
For employees on the ground, it sends a powerful message: You are supported. You belong here.
Improving Welfare and Day-to-Day Comfort for Site Workers
Working long hours in isolated locations means employees often can’t easily access shops, facilities, or emergency supplies. For those who menstruate, this can lead to significant stress and physical discomfort, ultimately affecting wellbeing and productivity.
By providing high-quality, organic products onsite, RES eliminates these barriers. Workers can focus on their roles without worrying about access to essentials, contributing to healthier, happier teams across all sites.
In Their Words
As they continue to champion the rollout across more assets, we’re proud to stand beside them as a sustainable supplier helping to reshape what good workplace wellbeing looks like in the renewable energy sector.
